Term 4 Inquiry

This term the preps are asking the question, “Where do I come from and how do I celebrate my culture?” As we learn about where we have come from, we can celebrate our differences as well as enjoy learning about the many occasions that are enjoyed all over the world as well as experienced by our multicultural society in Australia, today.

We look forward to sharing this inquiry with our families as students bring home their own family tree templates to fill in with their immediate family connections (siblings, parents and grandparents) to different countries. Students will be given the opportunity to share their findings about their background countries’ celebrations in their nominated Show and Tell week. If there are any questions regarding these, please don’t hesitate to ask one of the Prep teachers.

Finale Concert Song: Walk the Dinosaur

Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom x 6

It was a night like this sixty five million years ago
Steggy was ahead, Apatosaurus was so slow
The sun was spitting fire, the sky was blue as ice
Raptor was a movin’, T-Rex did exercise
Walk the dinosaur, Walk the dinosaur

Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur

Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom x 2

They met near a cave and the music was so loud
Their friends stopped by, wow, it was such a crowd
That night they had so much fun and danced beneath the stars
They stomped so loud, you could hear them up in mars
Walk the dinosaur, walk the dinosaur

Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur

(Music break)

There was a conga line, Diplodocus took the lead
For Musical statues, they all knew how to freeze
*Pause in Music*
During pass the parcel, Allosaurus won the lot
Next came Pin The Tail, on Triceratops
Walk the dinosaur, walk the dinosaur

Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur

Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom x 2

Costume Instructions

Step 1: Cut out the spike template and trace the template onto the foam six times. Trace the template onto the non-glitter side of the foam. Then cut out the foam spikes and fold the foam spikes in half, creating a triangle shape.

Step 2: Unfold the spikes and pin them onto the jumper with the glitter side facing down. Pin them down the centre of the jumper, starting from the top and working your way down. Pin three spikes on the hood, one on top of the head, one on the middle and one on the back of the head. Then pin three spikes on the back of the jumper, leaving a space between each spike as shown in the photos below.

Step 3: Once you have pinned the spikes, sew them onto the jumper by hand (Please note: sewing with a sewing machine will split the foam, so it is best to sew the spikes by hand).

Step 4: Once you are done, your jumper should have six spikes (diamonds) sew on. Three on the hood and three down the back, with the non-glittery side facing outwards. Then please hand the jumper back to your class teacher by next Monday (27th August). Your teacher will complete the costume process from here.

If you have any further questions about this, or if you are unable to complete the process, please see your classroom teacher ASAP.

Kind regards,

The Prep Team

Tristan, Tash B, Tash G and Dianna

Collecting Data

It has been fun collecting data about dinosaurs this week. We have been asking questions to find out more about various things, categorising information we gather, such as sorting dinosaurs into carnivore vs. herbivores or by other common characteristics. Here, we were asking our classmates a question that we chose, to collect data relating to the four dinosaurs pictured in our blank graph template. Some of the questions we asked were: “Which dinosaur is your favourite?”, “Which dinosaur would you like as a pet?” and even “Which dinosaur would you like a house shaped as?”

Creating Fossils of Living Things

Fossils are the preserved remains or traces of living things (plants or animals). They are usually found in rock and are discovered when they are dug out of the ground or the rock wears away by wind and water. We had a go at making our own fossils in Prep. We all made unique traces of animals either with trace fossils, body fossils or mould fossils, enjoying using clay and figurines, feathers, and toothpicks to make our own miniature expressions of stories preserved in time!

Prep D Concert Song: Velociraptor Shake

Velociraptor Shake

When it comes to dinosaurs, I am very small
Only 2 meters long, mmm mmm, and 1 metre tall
Don’t worry bout my size, you’re in for a surprise
I have a razor sharp claw mmm mmm, a razor sharp claw

But I am speedy, quick and fast, so speedy
Don’t come close, I’m snappy
Say my name, Velociraptor
I’m runner, so I run, run, run
My legs are very, strong, strong, strong
My teeth are jagged sharp, sharp, sharp
To eat the meat, eat the meat
T-rex is gonna break, break, break
Brontosaurus is a fake, fake, fake
Well I’m just super quick, quick, quick,
I’ve got my claws and mighty jaw

I look like a bird, I know that sounds absurd
I’ve got feathers down my arms, mmm mmm, feathers down my arms
And you may have guessed, I lay eggs in a nest
But I can’t fly, no no, I can’t fly

But I am speedy, quick and fast, so speedy
Don’t come close, I’m snappy
Say my name, Velociraptor
I’m runner, so I run, run, run
My legs are very, strong, strong, strong
My teeth are jagged sharp, sharp, sharp
To eat the meat, eat the meat
T-rex is gonna break, break, break
Brontosaurus is a fake, fake, fake
Well I’m just super quick, quick, quick
I’ve got my claws and mighty jaw

I’ve got my claws and mighty jaw
I’ve got my claws and mighty jaw
I’ve got my claws and mighty jaw
Velociraptor

Prep C Concert Song: Apatosaurus Base

Apatosaurus Base

You know my neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long

Yeah it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no small dino
I can stomp it, stomp it, at a slow speedo
Yeah I’m the largest of all the dinosaurs’
Really long neck and really long tail

I see all the forest, from the tree tops
I’m munching on the leaves, no I can’t stop
I’m a herba, herba, yeah I’m a herbivore
Eatin’ every leaf, rock and plant that I see

Being at this height no dinosaur wants to fight
But really it’s just cause we can’t see eye to eye
I can whip my tail to settle up a score
Ah now you guessed it
My name is Apatosaurus

You know my neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long

I’ve got some swagger hey, watch my neck sway
When my feet are stomping, you run the other way
Yeah I’m the oldest of all the dinosaurs
I can live to 100 years old

Being at this height no dinosaur wants to fight
But really it’s just cause we can’t see eye to eye
I can whip my tail to settle up a score
Ah now you guessed it
My name is Apatosaurus

My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long

My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long, and strong
My neck is so long, so long

Prep B Concert Song: T-Rex Roar

T-Rex Roar
I used to stomp around and show my teeth
Two legs and tail for balancing
I am a scavenger, I am a predator
So tall, I’m larger than a house
You can’t push me down, I am no mouse
8000 kilograms, much bigger than a tram
You ran away, but I found you
I see you hiding in the bush
My tail is long, my arms are short
I don’t know what to use them for
My eye sights great, so’s my snout
Get ready ’cause I’ll sniff you out
I see it all, I smell it now
I am the king of the planet, a fighter
T Rex, a biter
‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder than a raptor
‘Cause I am a champion, and I am a carnivore
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar!
Now I’m wandering, lookin’ for my prey
Run fast, then need to take a break
But I always get there, and use my deathly stare
You ran away, but I found you
Now you will feel my jaw
You hear my voice, a giant roar
Like thunder, gonna shake the floor
My teeth are big, very sharp
Get ready ’cause I’m chomping (aahh)
I eat it all, I eat it now
I am the king of the planet, a fighter
T Rex, a biter
‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder than a raptor
‘Cause I am a champion, and I am a carnivore.
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
I am a carnivore
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar!

Prep A Concert Song: Stegosaurus Happy

Stegosaurus Happy

It might seem crazy what I’m bout to say
I’ve got plates on my back, that don’t break
Changing colours, often to pink or red
My strong plates keep the carnivores away
Because I’m Steggy
I plod along cause 7kms feels very fast
‘cause I’m Steggy
I plod along cause my body’s very large
Because I’m Steggy
I plod along cause I like to move with my herd
‘cause I’m Steggy
I plod along cause I like to see the world
I’ve got big cheeks to store all my food… Yeah
Give me all you got, I really like to chew…. Yeah
I should probably tell you I’m a herbivore…. Yeah
Vegetarians, we beat the carnivores.
Here’s why:
Because I’m Steggy
I eat plants that are closest to the ground
‘cause I’m Steggy
I eat plants like moss, baby trees and ferns
Because I’m Steggy
I eat all day and I munch in lots of bites
‘cause I’m Steggy
I eat all day cause I’d rather eat than fight
Spikey tail/ small brain
Spikey tail/ my brain is so small
Spikey tail/ small brain
Spikey tail
Steggy, Steggy, Stegosaurus
Steggy, Steggy, Stegosaurus
Steggy, Steggy, Stegosaurus
I said:
Because I’m Steggy
I plod along cause 7kms feels very fast
‘cause I’m Steggy
I plod along cause my body’s very large
Because I’m Steggy
I plod along cause I like to move with my herd
‘cause I’m Steggy
I plod along cause I like to see the world
Because I’m Steggy
I plod along cause 7kms feels very fast
‘cause I’m Steggy
I plod along cause my body’s very large
Because I’m Steggy
I plod along cause I like to move with my herd
‘cause I’m Steggy
I plod along cause I like to see the world

Our 100th Day of School

On Wednesday 25th July, we celebrated our 100th day of school! We are so excited to have reached this massive milestone, and are so proud of ourselves and each other for all that we have achieved in these first 100 days of school. We spent the day involved in activities of construction, craft and numeracy all around the number 100. At the end of the day, we finished our celebrations with a mini disco, where we warmed up with 100 exercises! It was great fun to dress up as though we were 100 (or other interpretations of the number)! And counting out collections of 100 items by 10s has been a really great way to authenticate our learning to skip-count by tens.

We can’t wait to see what our next 100 days brings!
